Lemon Balm

Lamiaceae

Lemon-scented member of the mint family with similar aggressive spreading habit. DUAL-mechanism spread: self-seeding AND underground rhizomes. Container growing strongly recommended. Heart-shaped leaves, square stems, 24-36 inches tall. Hardy zones 4-9. 'Compacta' cultivar is sterile (no viable seed) — best choice for in-ground planting. Used for tea, garnish, and lemon-scented applications.
