Silver Queen Sweet Corn

Poaceae

Classic late-season white variety. Standard (su) sugary type — good corn flavor but less sweet than modern supersweet hybrids. 7.5-9 ft tall. 8-9 inch ears, 14-16 rows white kernels. CRITICAL: BLOCK PLANTING required — minimum 4 rows for wind pollination. Single rows = unfilled ears. Sugar converts to starch rapidly — eat within 3-5 days. Pick-to-plate speed matters more than any other crop. HEAVY nitrogen feeder.
